Managing Directer's Office,
Canton, 15th. June, 1916.
I beg to confirm the telegram from our Traffic Manager
te your goodsşlf as per ospy accompanied herewith reporting the
derailment of and the attack by rebbers on the down through
express train No. 5 at Mile 20 at about 8 o'clock this morning,
with the result that two passengers were killed instantaneously,
nins passengers were seriously injured and twenty six passengers
were slightly injured: the casualties being caused through the
dørailment of the engine and the two coaches, and the first
two conchas salascapad.
These are only preliminary reports and when full details
of the accident are received, the same will be communicated te
you in due course, but I would add in addition that on this
occasion, which took place at precisely the same place where the
night train was robbed and derailed on 16th. August 1914 at
about 4.50 a.m., the rebbers first tampered with the track and
vhạn thạ track inspecter and his men arrived at the spot on their
usual tour of track inspection, they were at once seized by the
robbers and worp violently struck with the butt end of rifles
and injured when endeavouring to give warning signal to the
soming train, hence the accident.
I would also add that I am strongly representing the
matter to the local Authorities to take rigorous setiam hərela
and to afford adequate protection to this line.
I have to do.,
(sd.) Van Teh Chang,
Managing Directer.
